Weapons of Mass Distraction!

This past week or so I have begun to reflect. I have reflected on my different relationships I hold dear to me and also my relationship with myself. Now as I’m sure you are no well aware I gave up twitter and facebook for Lent. In the beginning not being able to log on to twitter to read up on what my “friends” were doing or post random excerpts from my day-to-day life was a struggle. I struggled with this and social drinking the most. But after a few days it became a breeze. For me the only time I wanted to tweet is when someone said something hilarious or when I was watching March Madness. But I have also picked up on something about relationships I have with different people.
Via: OrangiePorangie

1.       A few of my friends would ask me, “did you see ________ on twitter.” And I was like, “No, I gave it up for Lent.” And it made me sit there and wonder, Is this what it has come to? Relationships you have with other people are based on social networks? Is this the only way you are able to stay connected? I mean totally disagree. But this has made me realize which relationships are true and which are rather superficial. There are things I had no idea were going on in my “friends” lives that were only placed on twitter. And maybe this is partially my fault for not keeping in touch with them. But the phone goes both ways. I personally love talking on the phone. I always have but there are only a few people I actually have phone conversations with on a regular basis. Well actually only two people I can think of, one being my mother.

2.       My life feels a lot less cluttered. And I find that the few people I actually do speak to on a regular basis outside of twitter and facebook our relationships have grown. They know what I’m going through and how I am doing not based on my twitter timeline but actually taking the time out of their day to ask. And this is important to me. Therefore they are important to me. Again I’m being vague, by choice.

3.       I also feel more aware. And by that I mean more aware of my surroundings and more aware of where I stand. I am not always looking down at my phone catching up on my timeline. I also feel more aware of people and their true intentions. With twitter things get so boggled with “subliminal messages” that are to you and not to you. I can never tell the difference. And it always has me sitting there, “feeling some kind of way. “ and I just think these past few weeks life has been much easier done than said.

4.       My relationship with my “boyfriend” (don’t know the last time we have called each other boyfriend/girlfriend. Just last week he called me his arch-enemy) but our relationship has had not one qualm since I have been off twitter. And this is sad to me. Not placing much blame on him because he has asked for years for us to remove ourselves from social networks but me, “wanting to stay relevant”, as my girlfriend says, has kept me on. Which I disagree but I do not feel like him and I should have to disconnect from the world to improve our relationship. There are other underlying issues there, (another post, another time).
a.       We don’t even follow one another. But we still look and don’t always like what we see. But it’s twitter. I guess this is a lesson. I have taught myself.

5.  I also read in an article yesterday that stated, "we tend to present an upbeat version of ourselves, leaving out bad things." which I find to be true for the most part but then you have those debby downers that always seem to be complaining about something. The article also said, "so we see this glossy image of others and feel as if our lives don't measure up. But that's not the full picture." People should just live their lives. Their REAL ones, not for an affirmation from others.

I just have learned a lot about myself. Not sure that was my goal for giving up twitter & facebook is more so to grow my bond with God. But I guess getting something out of the experience is good. Not saying that when I do return I will do a 180 and completely change and not tweet a lot, but it is an eye opening experience that I should be doing less tweeting when I am in the middle of living.

This is all just a personal reflection. I love twitter though.

Promising start.

I like this! I found it on Tumblr. This is so true. I woke up this morning feeling so tired, probably because I finally had a Sunday off. it was well spent I felt. I went to church with my mom & boyfriend in Anderson, IN called, The Bridge. I had been before when I was younger with my mom. It was refreshing. I love going there. It is so laid back and straight to the point. And the band is always amazing! (weekly discussions. Read: Mark 8:34-38 & John 6:38-40). The main discussion of the day was are you a fan or are you a follower. It was pretty ironic because he tied this in with P90X which like I told you before I just started with my girlfriend.

Fan: a fan of P90X would just be someone who buys the tapes and just let them sit on the shelf
Follower: a follower of P90X would be someone who actually consistently and faithfully follows the program.

In my mind I am turning into a follower. We did the program everyday last week! Today is exactly 4 months from my birthday so today I will begin to mark my progression! Wish me luck!

So I couldn't wait. After I got off work on Saturday we saw The Hunger Games (at 11:30pm). I had worked from 10am - 8pm. So I was pretty tired I don't know why I thought I could sit through a 2.5 hour movie. Well needless to say I could not. Jean slept through the entire thing and I kept dosing in and out. I don't know why I ask people their opinions on movies. I always end up formulating my own opinion. Everyone I asked loved the movie. My thoughts: I thought it was decent (the parts I did see) I thought it was kind of too much. I know that they had to explain what was going on but I just thought it was okay. Some of Katniss' facial expression didn't line up to what I thought she was experiencing in the book. But that is just my opinion.

#Pause. One of my favorite friends from High School and fav white boy ever in life just came to visit me at work. Evan Jinks *blushing* lol. JK But he is in town from Denver, CO. So good to see him! I've known Evan since 7th or 8th grade!

These pics are from Summer 2007. The summer after my Freshman year at Purdue! It was an amazing summer! I can't believe that was like almost 6 years ago! Wow.

Happy Friday!

What a week! Won some lost some! But it is Friday and I am ecstatic! My "Summa Lova" Whitney is coming in town today which means I will probably partake in some binge drinking this evening. *shrugs* I think we are going to watch the stupid IU vs Kentucky game tonight. Even though I strongly dislike both teams! I honestly hope Kentucky wins, especially since Purdue is out of the tourney. Michigan State's loss last night kind of hurt my feelings also.

<------ One of my Bff's, Jenae, hit me up this week saying she has been thinking of me a lot lately. Ironic. She pinned this shirt! I want it now! I am such a t-shirt type of gal. You would totally not think that but I am. Jenae has been living in LA for the past two years. She was in the Teach for America program. But this summer she is all mine! Let the schemes begin!

I know I am excited for the weekend but I do work tomorrow. What else is new. I also have to work an event at the Indiana State Museum Saturday, "Black Poets Rock!"

Tasha Jones will be among many others who will attend the event Saturday at the State Museum. I was able to listen to a snippet of her at the last event I worked there. So I look forward to this weekend. Check out HERstory.

Do you watch 'Mad Men'? I never really got into the show!

I love me some Jon Hamm though. I saw him during Super Bowl! He is surely beautiful & Has a great butt. Ha #random. I might try and catch up on all the past episodes and start watching it this season. Just to see what all the rave is about!

Oh yea, did I mention to you guys HUNGER GAMES IS OUT?! I think I will wait until Sunday or at least Monday to go see it! I'm uber geeked.

Not only is Club Monaco opening their website on Monday it is also exactly 4 months until my 25th Birthday! I will start my freal exercise planning to get to my goal weight! My girlfriend Danielle texted me this morning asking how my 25 before I'm 25 is going... I responded, "ummmm... about that." so you know what that means! I will do better though! I clearly can't build a snowman anymore this year so there is already one thing off the list! lol I'm almost complete with not spending any money an entire pay period, only have like 12 more movies to see, & I've ordered my fast! So those will soon be crossed off! (fingers crossed)

My girlfriend, Cylvia, I'm doing P90X with has me hooked on Frozen Yogurt. So good! This was fat free strawberry with fresh strawberries & gummy bears lol.

National Puppy Day! today would be the perfect day to get one! Check out cute pics here!

Do you know what today is?...

THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING! I know it has felt like spring for weeks now and has pretty much been already feeling like summer. I don't know about you but I am still geeked. I lovee warm weather and longer days. Sunshine seriously just does something to me. It gives me no reason to be upset about anything! I am such a summer baby! I suffer from seasonal moodiness, or moodiness in general. (sue me)

Ps. I wish these flowers were for me. lol ;)

So, I was going to focus this post on something totally different, something more personal, until I remembered it was the first day of spring. We had a change of speed. I will leave that post for another day!

I will just keep it brief and let you know what has been going on in my life.

via.
- March MADness will certainly leave you MAD! Purdue lost Sunday night against Kansas. They were up the entire game. I was pretty much pissed all Monday and heard about it the whole day from all the Ohio State & IU fans I work with. Hmph! I feel so bad for Robbie! He is such a great player & has been through so much. I rememebr him as a young freshman when we had Math 154 together. Great things are to come his way!

- My girlfriend Cylvia & I started P90X last night! I'm super excited. I was being so indecsisive about what gym I wanted to join. This way I can save money and spend time with a friend. We had a lovely talk afterwards also!

- Everyday this week I have met with my client with the National Black MBA Association. They are hosting an event in the Indiana Convention Center in September and I will be their coordinator. I am pretty eager to find out more details!

- The Hunger Games comes out Friday! I cannot wait. I kind of want to reread the 1st book again. But I'll pass. I have too much to do. I think I will wait until next Monday to go see it though. I hate crowded movie theaters.

- Cakes from Costco > * (and we will leave that at that.)

- OPI Spring 2012 Holland Collection is out. I recently saw them on display and it took almost everything out of me to not buy 3 of the shades! I'm obsessed.

- Smokey Eye tips! I sure need em. I just throw stuff on my eye lids & pray it looks okay! lol

- Need help budgeting. Check this out!

- 5 Teens were shot downtown In Indianapolis Saturday, 3/17! Read more here.

- How to live with no regrets & health habits to help you live to 100. (not that I want to live that long... who knows lol)

- I'm obsessed with this blog & her family!

" We may not like it, but it really is important to stop every once and awhile, get out of our own head, and see the bigger picture. Actually, finding out that you've been looking at things all wrong, can be sort of liberating. And suddenly, you see new potential, new possibilities, where you've never seen them before. And that's all fine when a hopeless situation suddenly looks good. Unfortunately, sometimes it goes the other way." - Grey's Anatomy (I know my last post was mostly with Grey's info. but I just lovee the show!)

"One Step Too Far"

So I haven't been sleeping well this past week at all. I have yet to put a finger on what is going on in my mind although I have an idea. Work this week has been beyond stressful but I started running again. I ran a few times this week which was relaxing. Not sure if it is just in my head or not but I feel like I already see results!

When you can't sleep what do you?

Yesterday was St. Patty's Day! I went out with a couple of friends and ended up breaking my Lenten promise, I drank! Not too proud of it. I was doing so well. I used the excuse that I had a tough week. But that is even more of a reason I should not have drank I should have focused more on asking for strength to just get through it. I will not give up.

I have been terrible about keeping up with Grey's lately. Mostly because all my shows have been pissing me off (Grey's & Gossip Girl) because they have not been showing new episodes consistently. I am just now catching up on last weeks episode of Grey's, 'One Step Too Far'. It was a good episode and I'm glad because lately they haven't been keeping my attention. Cristina has been thinking that Owen is cheating on her with a specific nurse. Come to find out he is not... with her. But with someone else. And of course that is when the episode ended.

Below are Meredith's beginning and end quote for the week. Her quotes are always amazing but how fitting huh? You can find them all here.

"We're trained to be vigilant, to chase down the problem, to ask all the right questions, to find the root cause until we know exactly what it is and we confront it. It takes an extreme amount of caution or we can't overstep ourselves. We can create problems that don't exist."

"Our intentions are always pure. We always want to do what is right, but we also have the drive to push boundaries. So we're in danger of taking things to far. We're told to do no harm while we're trained to cut you open with a knife. So when we do things when we should have left well enough alone. Because its hard to admit when there's no problem to treat, to let it alone before we make it so much worse. Because we cause terrible damage."

Also at first I thought it was Florence + The Machine singing the closing song. But it wasn't It was Zola Jesus. She has a Florence vibe to her. Check out 'Lick the palm of the burning handshake'. I like it!

I know this doesn't really fit into the topic of discussion but I couldn't leave out my little Berry! Love her. Can't wait to finally meet her this summer! My Cali lova & I have finally set dates on our summer trip! YIPPPEE!

March Madness!

Let me first start off by saying BOILER UP! Last Friday I scalped tickets to go to the Big Ten Tourney. I was super scared that our tickets wouldn't work. THEY DID! I went to the Michigan vs. Minnesota game which was super exciting. I went into overtime. (I was wishing I could tweet during the entire game) Then we stayed to watch the Purdue vs. Ohio State game which was stupid. Purdue ticks me all the way off. They so could have won. But whatev. they are in the tourney! Do you all have your Brackets filled out? I don't I need to get on it. I usually cheat & fill out more than one lol. *shrugs*

So I finally had a day off! Monday was spent mostly relaxing. I went to multiple malls and of course threw a temper tantrum because I didn't see much I liked. I bought a dress (probably should be a shirt) from Urban Outfitters for only like $15! SUPER SAVE! lol

This weather has been absolutely amazing. Although, I am scared to see what it will be like this summer if we are already pushing the 70 degrees! But of course I am not complaining. I love summer, heat, sunshine! It already has me feeling some kind of way, free I guess I should say. Ha. March Madness I tell you!

So we had three new employees start with our company this past week. I pretty much like all of them I think they will be a good fit to our department. The most exciting part of it all is that one of the girls (who went to IU, I won't hold it against her) will be 25 the same day I will!!! Now you know I couldn't hold my excitment in for anything! lol

I know I am going in reverse but I just wanted to share with you the event I held this past weekend. It was Brickworld Indianapolis. It was a complete success. I did not think I would enjoy it as much as I did! Here are a few pictures I took from the event.

1. Is a picture of a guy on a balcony smoking a bong.
2. inside of Lucas Oil Stadium & the players on the field were the Patriots & Gaints
3. Is outside of the Stadium
4. Is a guy riding a camel (I think) w/ a sign that says, "stop buying clone brick)

LMAO! I loved it!

This weekend isn't as fun I have a Cheerleading event. Womp!

How do you feel about daring marketing attempt? This company has turned homeless people into Wireless Hotspots. They are being paid but this has had tons of backfire!

This past weekend was 'The Hunger Games' premiere! I am uber stoked for this movie to come out! I lovee blogger, Elements of Style, comparison of Twilight to The Hunger Games. - "Hunger Games. I read the series last year in like, a hot minute. As a Twilight lover I was game for any new young adult trilogy but this one was of another breed. One in which women are empowered not left pining for an undead, semi-violent lover (don’t worry Edward, still love you most). If I had a daughter I’d much rather she read Hunger Games than Twilight any day of the week. I loved it!" I totally agree! And yes, I am an Edward fan as well!

I'm not married but I did just get a raise- owww!
“almost 40 percent of U.S. working wives now out-earn their husbands..." Click the read more.

Glad to now be following Ever Swoon. An event planner. Def. someone to look up to!

Hope the rest of your week is wonderful!

In my dreams...

One thing you should learn about me is that I believe. I believe in horoscopes, superstitions, dreams, love. All of that jazz I just do. I don't know why always have and probably always will.

As of lately I have been having very vivid dreams. And for some reason they have been involving a lot of celebrities. It started one night right before I went to sleep the last person I was texting was my girlfriend, Brittany. That night I had a wild dream involving J. Cole (they had a recent encounter). That is the only method to the madness I could come up with. All I remember is us being in a store buying shoes & an xbox & about to get kicked out by a security guard.  But one aspect sticks out more than all of that. I remember my teeth falling out. This isn't the first time I've had a dream involving my teeth and some sort of tragedy with that. After research I found a couple of interpretations of this dream.

1. loss of control
2. feeling helpless and/or anxious
3. afraid of change
4. not wanting to look bad
5. If you cover up your mouth in the dream it could mean you are trying to hide something or you feel embarrassed.
Also the Huffington Post had a pretty interesting article about it. It stated that when you wake up from the dream you should ask yourself this question, "What am I failing to really bite into?" It also gave one trick to avoid these dreams - LIVE FREELY!

I've also been having a lot of dreams about my girlfriend, Alexa lately. I must really miss her. In one of my dreams Alexa and I were driving to a cabin and Jay-Z was in the car next to us and decided to ride with us to clear his mind for some new lyrics. lol. In my last dream I dreamt I was at Victoria Secret and Heidi Klum & Julia Roberts were shopping but Julia was the same height as Heidi. I don't know my mind just makes these things up! lol

On another note. My week has been pretty interesting. I am coordinating all the meeting rooms and ballrooms for National Truck Equipment Association. It was been a rough few weeks because originally it was one of my coworkers shows but him and his wife moved to Seattle so needless to say it was turned over to me. There was tons of confusion/miscommunication and all that jazz. Not on his behalf he was great! Even after he left he was still helping me with some of the work and I definitely need to send him a thank you card! Yesterday former President Bush spoke at their 48th annual meeting. This was an amazing experience to be apart of. I went on like four secret service run through this week. Just felt so important to be there to help execute such an important meeting!

I didn't sit through the entire meeting but I did listen to majority of the former President's speech. he was pretty funny and had some good points I took note on:
- It's awesome not being president anymore although he missed being pampered and not having to stop at stop lights. And now his wife makes him do the dishes.
- Power can be very addicting
- He stated that he believes it undermines the presidency if you criticize successor. And that it is a hard job regardless.
- Fathers should love their children
- If you are running an organization make sure you have very clear goals in mind.
- The former President ended with God is good, all the time!

Since I can't tweet here is my mini twitter feed:
**Big Ten Tournament starts today!!!! I lovee college basketball & March Madness! #BOILERUP
**I lovee 'The Voice'
**This guy that works at the stadium sent me a box of Pretzel Crisps because he is friends with the owner! #yum
**My girlfriend, Whitney, must really miss me. She sent me this text, "I miss u. Can u just quit & move up here? u can crash at our place til u have a job & just pay us in sexual favors & domestic duties" (love my friends)

This post is getting pretty long so I will wrap it up but here is some link lovin'

Check out Maya Brenner Designs. I love her jewelry & makes for perfect gifts!

So I have been wanting to touch on this subject for awhile now. Election time is around the corner and campaign season has come back around. I am troubled by Rick Santorum and ideology on birth control. Do you think insurance companies should cover it or not? Here are a few links on his statements.

Music Monday: Dance For You

I just wanna show you how much I appreciate you, yes
Wanna show you how much I'm dedicated to you, yes
Wanna show you how much I will forever be true, yes
Wanna show you how much you got your girl feeling good, oh, yes
Wanna show you how much, how much you understood, oh, yes
Wanna show you how much I value what you say,
Not only are you loyal, you're patient with me babe, oh, yes
Wanna show you how much I really care about your heart,
Wanna show you how much I hate being apart, oh, yes
Show you, show you, show you, till you through with me,
I wanna keep it how it is so you can never say how it used to be!

Loving you is really all that's on my mind
And I can't help but to think about it day and night,
I wanna make that body rock
Sit back and watch!

Tonight I'm gonna dance for you, oh-oh
Tonight I'm gonna dance for you, oh-oh
Tonight I'm gonna put my body on your body
Boy I like it when you watch me, ah
Tonight it's going down
I'll be rocking on my babe, rocking, rocking on my babe,
Swirling on my babe, swirling, swirling on my babe
Baby let me put my body on your body
Promise not to tell nobody
'Cause it's 'bout to go down!

You'll never need 2 'cause I will be your number 1
Them other chicks are superficial
But I know you know I'm the one
That's why I'm all into you
'Cause I can recognize that you know that
That's why I'm backing this thing back
Pop-popping this thing back
Drop, drop, drop-dropping this thing back
This is for the time you gave me flowers
For the world that is ours
For the mula, for the power of love
And no I won't never ever e-ever give you up
And I wanna say thank you in case I don't thank you enough
A woman in the street and a freak in the you know what  ;)
Sit back, sit back, it's the pre-game show
Daddy you know what's up!

Loving you is really all that's on my mind
And I can't help but to think about it day and night,
I wanna make that body rock
Sit back and watch!

Tonight I'm gonna dance for you, oh-oh
Tonight I'm gonna dance for you, oh-oh
Tonight I'm gonna put my body on your body
Boy I like it when you watch me, ah
Tonight it's going down
I'll be rocking on my babe, rocking, rocking on my babe,
I'll be swirling on my babe, swirling, swirling on you babe
I'm gonna put my body on your body
Promise not to tell nobody
'Cause it's about to go down!
Watch me pop it, pop it, p-p-p-p-pop it for you baby
Drop it, drop it, drop it, drop it for you baby
Watch it, watch it, watch it, watch me throw it baby
Wanna make that body rock
Sit back and watch!
Me pop it, pop it, p-p-p-p-pop it for you baby
Drop it, drop it, drop it, drop it for you baby
Watch it, watch it, watch it, watch me throw it baby
Wanna make that body rock
Sit back and watch!

I know this isn't new but I absolutely lovee everything about this song & this video. King B has done it again. I can't stop listening to this song. It makes me want to.... give more. lol

Have a wonderful Monday peeps!

"She say she twenty-two"

I want to start/dedicate this post to my sister a Happy 22nd Birthday!! This is picture above is from her 21st birthday last year! To say the least this is pre inebriation! Lol.

Nicole Marie, is not my biological sister. We have known each other since I was in the 3rd grade and she was a kindergartner. We live five houses down from one another. I wouldn't even say this girl is my best friend because in real life I do not like her at all. She works my last nerves. We are polar opposites. We got in a fight over the remote when we were younger and she hit and I cried. lol She is for sure my sister. I would do anything for her. I am so happy that God has placed her and her mother, Sherry, in my life. They have been such a blessing.

Last night we went to BARcelona Tapas to start off the night! It was amazing! I had never been before. I definitely recommend you try it out! We then went to Broad Ripple. I stood strong to Lenten promises. I did not have one sip of alcohol. The struggle was real as was peer pressure. I feel proud. Five more weekends left to go.

Somehow it has become March, not sure when. It is getting closer and closer to my birthday and I feel like I am not accomplishing my 25 before 25 list! I did make a new recipe this week but I'm not sure if I would even count that.
It was a pasta dish with:
Chicken
Cheese
Fresh Onion, Spinach & garlic
spaghetti sauce
Wheat penne noodles

It was delicious. I might try some of Alaina's recipes! Especially the wraps! They look delicious. But I seriously love pasta entirely too much!

That pretty much is all I have for you guys today! I have got to get back to work. I will leave you with some link lovin'.

Check out Ithaca, NY new Mayor! He is only 24, same age as me!
